There is now a sudden rise in the patronage in the metro trains in Chennai. People now opt for metro train travel to reach their destinations in Chennai because of factors like summer, increased fuel prices, offers announced by CMRL etc.
It is noteworthy that in the last one week alone, the average ridership of metro trains in Chennai has increased to nearly 1.6lakh passengers a day. Ever since the month of April, the metro train patronage has been increasing and many factors have contributed to the increase. This was according to some CMRL officials. The scorching summer heat has played its part in a huge manner in increasing the patronage in the metro trains in Chennai now. People want to travel in air-conditioned metro trains in the summer heat to reach their destinations.
The auto and cab drivers are demanding huge money (due to hike in the fuel prices) and this was also responsible for many to prefer metro trains now. An officer from CMRL later explained about the offers that have been provided for those who recharge for a certain amount and for those who buy new cards.
Information is that Chennai Central metro station has continued to be the busiest metro station in Chennai now as more passengers use this station now. In March 2022, 10000 passengers used Central metro and now an additional 5000 passengers have been using this station.
It is now revealed that the construction of Central Square near Central station has increased the patronage in the metro trains here. Nearly 8000 commuters use Thirumangalam metro station daily and many belonging to places like Ambattur, Retteri, Padi and Mogappair use this Thirumangalm station now frequently. It is learnt that nearly 7500 passengers use Chennai Airport metro station and High Court metro train station.
