The already congested Mandaveli in south Chennai would become even more congested in the future!!
It is now brought out that moving around near MTC bus stand and depot at Mandaveli would be difficult for many as CMRL might take over a piece of land here to construct an underground metro station. It is learnt that CMRL might take around 268 sq km of bus stand spread over an area of 635 sqm and also 186 sqm on the depot.
Five metro train - MTC bus interchanges have been planned already in the 118.9km phase-2. The underground metro station at the MTC bus stand in Mandaveli would be ready by 2026. For pre-construction works, CMRL has been barricading roads near the bus depot here.
Around 367 sqm of land would be taken up initially here temporarily and this was as per Mr. L. Girirajan, spokesperson from CMRL.
During the metro station construction work, 18 structures including 5 residential and 6 commercial buildings would get affected. This was according to a detailed project report.
It is noteworthy that the upcoming underground metro station here would be located under the Ramakrishna Mutt Road between Mandaveli bus stand and bus depot at the junction of RK Mutt Road and South Canal Bank Road. Corridor-3 of 47kms stretches from Madhavaram Milk Colony in the north to Siruseri Sipcot in the south east. Point is that Mandaveli metro station would be a part of this.
Out of 27 interchanges connecting metro train services with other modes of transport such as suburban trains, MRTS, MTC etc CMRL has planned 5 interchanges. These interchanges would connect metro trains and MTC bus stands or bus terminuses. Information collected is that the interchanges would be coming up in localities like Ayanavaram, Adyar, MMBT Madhavaram, Villivakkam etc. It has been mentioned that there would be walkway and footpath connectivity to link the station with the bus stand.
