From just 10,000 passengers travelling in the metro trains seven years back to about 2.50 lakhs travelling on an average now in the weekdays, the metro trains in Chennai have come a long way!!

The metro trains are overcrowded now in Chennai in the peak hours (that is from 8am to 11am in the morning and from 5pm to 8pm in the evening) and this has been an issue for the passengers. The passengers now want more metro trains

A regular metro train user spoke about the need for more such trains and said metro trains for every 3 minutes in the peak hours would be superb. He explained that the number of passengers travelling during the peak hours would only become more in the future and hence the frequency of the trains must be increased. He concluded that during the days before a long weekend or before a public holiday etc CMRL must run metro trains for every 3 minutes to help the commuters.

For the sake of convenience, many commuters have shifted from suburban trains to metro trains now. This was brought out by Mr. V. Santhanam from Chromepet. He threw light on the fact that a few years back not many travelled in the metro trains but now these trains are running full of people. Many people use these metro trains to reach Anna Salai and north chennai etc is well known

As per some officials from CMRL there are mulling the options to run the metro trains for every 3 minutes and see the feasibility. To operate metro trains for every 3 minutes, more trains and additional resources would be required. Various options are being explored now and this was mentioned by an officer from CMRL.
