The news that has come out now is that on the 5th metro line between CMBT and Masdhavaram there would be 10 elevated metro stations and 5 underground metro stations. This was announced by an official belonging to CMRL.
The traffic congestion in Chennai due to the large number of vehicles is unbearable and the construction of the metro line is also leading to traffic congestion now. To reduce this traffic congestion in the city, CMRL has been operating metro trains for about 55kms in 2 routes. It must be noted that the phase-2 metro work has been going at full speed now regarding the second phase to link Chennai with suburban places. An amount of rs 61843 cr would be spent for this metro work of 118,9km on the five lines.
Currently, metro works are going between Light house in the Marina Beach and Poonamalle of 26.1kms on the third line and between Madhavatama and Sholinganallur of 47kms on the 4th line and between Madhavaram and SIPCOT Siruseri of 48kms on the 5th line. At Madhavaram, metro works have been going on well now with lots of huge machines etc.
It was later mentioned by an officer from CMRL that 16 metro stations would be built of 10.1km from CMBT to Madhavaram Milk Colony on the 5th line of phase 2. He added that there would be elevated metro stations in 10 places like CMBT, Anna Nagar KV metro, Thirumangalam junction metro, Anna nagar, west metro, Retteri metro, Shastri Nagar metro etc in Chennai. He hinted that there would be underground metro stations in 5 places like Villivakkam MTH Road metro, Srinivasa Nagar metro, Kolathur Junction metro and Madhavaram Panimanai metro etc. Truth is that a contract worth Rs 206.64 cr was already signed for building steel routes and other works etc of 10.1kms
