There is now a delay in the metro phase-2 construction works from Porur to Power House on the line 4 from Poonamallee to Light House and this is due to many reasons. For a distance of 118.9km, metro 2 phase construction works are being carried out at a cost of Rs 63246 crores in 3 routes. Out of these, in one route, an elevated route is being built for 16km from LightHouse to Poonamallee and for about 10.1km underground works are carried out.
There would be a total of 30 metro stations in the metro phase 2 and since the workshop would be located at Poonamallee, on the priority basis the construction of this route is being carried out. The Chennai Metro Rail Limited or CMRL has decided to complete the works between Poonamalle and Power House fast so that it could be opened for the public use. It must be noted that this route has been divided into 2 parts and works are being carried out now. Between Poonamalle and Porur, work is going on well and at a fast rate also.
It is true that there has been some delay in the metro construction works between Porur and Power House now. The narrow road width has been cited as an issue and due to that it is necessary to acquire lands and make necessary traffic arrangements etc. There is also an urgent need to replace the sewer pipes, electricity and telephone cables etc. The work has been going on regarding this and it will get over soon.
The officials belonging to CMRL have revealed that they have taken the demands of the public transport into consideration and have assured that measures would be taken to complete the works as soon as possible.
