From tomorrow that is 16th of February 2023 onwards, under the second phase CMRL works, the tunneling works on the green corridor on the third line from Madhavaram to Siruseri SIPCOT would start.

CMRL Phase-2 project:

It is well known that in phase-2 of CMRL project in Chennai, works are being carried out for a distance of 118.9km in 3 lines at a mammoth cost of Rs 63246 crores. An important route connecting north, south & central Chennai would be the 45.8km Madhavaram to Siruseri SIPCOT route. It is learnt that this route would be connecting important places like Adyar, Mylapore and Purasawalkam etc.

In the month of October in 2022, the tunnel boring works started for the first time at the Madhavaram Milk Colony in north Chennai. Point is that on the green corridor of this route, preliminary works have been going on. The first tunnel boring machine was unloaded at the end of January 2023 and continuous testing was carried out.

In this scenario, tomorrow on 16th February on the green corridor of the route, tunneling work would start. This was according to CMRL.

It was later bought out by some officers from CMRL that the work on assembling the tunnel boring machines was completed and erected below the ground. Multi phase testing has been completed also.

Underground metro works would be carried out from the green corridor to Adyar junction for about  a distance of 1km and below the river bed a 7m tunnel would be constructed. They added that since it would be a very risky work enough safety measures would be followed.

It is well known that in Chennai city metro trains are being operated along the  St Thomas Mount- Chennai Central line and in the airport- Wimco Nagar in 2 lines for a distance of 54kms. For the last few months, every day, 1.80 lakhs to 2.40lakhs passengers use these routes to reach their destinations. Now, CMRL has been taking several steps to increase the footfalls in the metro trains.

Soon, a survey would be conducted by CMRL to know about the various important requirements of the passengers and improve the patronage. It was mentioned by some CMRL officers that last year the first consultation was conducted and in the next week a second consultation would be carried out. The metro train tickets would be distributed to 20,000 to 25,000 passengers accordingly. At all the metro stations in the city, the survey would be conducted.
