Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has witnessed a surge in passenger footfall in February 2023, with a total of 63.69 lakh passengers recorded for the month. The highest passenger flow was on February 10, with 2.61 lakh passengers travelling on the metro.
Compared to January, where 66.07 lakh passengers travelled on the Chennai metro, the average daily ridership was at 2.13 lakh passengers. However, in February, the average daily ridership increased to 2.27 lakh passengers, indicating a rise in ridership.
The QR code ticketing system has been gaining popularity, with a total of 20.20 lakh passengers using this system in February alone. Meanwhile, 39.85 lakh passengers used travel cards during the same period. CMRL offers a 20 per cent discount on mobile QR code ticketing for single, return, group tickets and QR trip passes. Additionally, 20 per cent discount fares are also available on Metro travel cards.
