Starting from February 2022-23, it has been reported that more than 2.5 lakh in-transit commuters of the Chennai Metro Rail have utilized over 62,000 GB of content via Sugarbox Networks, which is one of the non-fare box revenue services offered by CMRL.

In order to provide uninterrupted and personalized digital experiences to passengers during their transit, Sugarbox entered into a partnership with CMRL in March 2020. Apart from Chennai Metro, Sugarbox has also collaborated with other metro rails across various cities.

This local Wi-Fi network service, which is exclusively accessible within the train, has been implemented across all 52 metro trains in Chennai. Commuters are not required to consume their personal mobile data while browsing, as Sugarbox takes care of it all.
