Chennai Metro Rail: Madhavaram-Poonamallee Corridor work in full swing! Plan to complete by the end of 2024!

The construction of a special maintenance workshop is in full progress at Madhavaram and Poonamallee to maintain the Chennai Metro Trains after the completion of the 2nd Phase of the Chennai Metro Rail Project. The project is planning to complete this construction project by the end of the year 2024.

At present, the Chennai Metro Trains operate in two corridors: Parangimalai (St. Thomas Mount)-Central and Chennai Airport-Wimco Nagar, covering a distance of 54 km. Maintenance of these metro trains is carried out at the workshop in Koyambedu. The construction of the Maintenance Workshop in Wimco Nagar, covering an area of 20 acres, is nearing completion and will function soon.

In this situation, the 2nd Phase of the Chennai Metro Rail Project is in progress, covering a distance of 118.9 km in three corridors. The project is planned to be completed before the year 2026. To maintain the metro trains operating in these corridors, a workshop is planned to be set up in Madhavaram and Poonamallee.

The project was planned to be completed in three years, and the contract for the project was entrusted to three private agencies. The project started in January 2022.
