The Chennai Metro Rail Project Company has announced that passenger identity cards will be mandatory to park vehicles at Chennai Metro Rail stations from today (Wednesday, 19th April).
In a notification released by the Chennai Metro Rail Company, it is mentioned that "To encourage cashless financial transactions to the maximum extent, the passenger identity card issued by the Chennai Metro Rail Company will be mandatory from today (Wednesday, 19th April) for passengers to park their vehicles at Chennai Metro Rail stations. This initiative has been taken to ensure a safe and efficient payment procedure and to reduce transactions in hard cash. Furthermore, this initiative will facilitate more amenities such as allowing vehicles to enter or leave rapidly, transparency in transactions, and cashless transactions, among others.
Passengers can obtain their travel identity card from the ticket counters at all Chennai Metro stations, parking lots at Chennai Metro stations, or online at the Chennai Metro Rail website after topping up."
Chennai Metro Rail Company has also announced that passengers can avail of the identity card to obtain a 20% discount on their ticket fare travel!
