In anticipation of the highly-anticipated World Cup cricket match between Afghanistan and Pakistan, scheduled at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on October 23 (Monday), the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has made special arrangements by extending its train services until midnight today. This extended service is a result of a collaborative effort between CMRL and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, aimed at providing seamless travel for cricket enthusiasts attending the match.
According to the official press release, the extended train services on the blue line will commence from the Government Estate station, proceeding towards the Airport station and Wimco Nagar Depot station. The frequency of these services has been adjusted to accommodate the expected surge in passenger demand. On the green line, trains departing from the Central Metro station will operate with a 15-minute frequency, routing towards the St Thomas Mount station.
However, it`s important to note that there will be no direct train service between the Central Metro and Airport Metro stations between 11 pm and 12 am on match days. Passengers bound for the Airport Metro station are advised to make a convenient interchange at the Arignar Anna Alandur Metro station, as stated in the CMRL press release.
In an additional gesture to facilitate cricket fans, CMRL has announced that passengers possessing valid match tickets can enjoy a round-trip Metro journey between their chosen destination and the Government Estate Metro station. To utilize this benefit, viewers can simply scan the barcode on their valid match tickets at the automatic gates of the Government Estate Metro station.
