Chennai, November 2, 2023: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has reported a consistent surge in passenger numbers, with October marking a new milestone in ridership. According to a recent press release from CMRL, the month of October saw a remarkable 85.50 lakh passengers utilizing the metro services. This figure follows closely behind September`s record, which stood at 84.37 lakh passengers.
The data also revealed that October 20 set a new record for single-day ridership, with an impressive 3.60 lakh passengers choosing the metro as their mode of transportation. These numbers reflect a noteworthy increase in average ridership over the past few months, indicating the city`s growing reliance on the metro for daily commuting.
Furthermore, CMRL`s data breakdown for October highlights the diverse choices made by passengers when it comes to ticketing options. A total of 42.16 lakh passengers opted for travel cards, while 2.07 lakh passengers embraced the convenience of online QR facilities. Additionally, 96,913 passengers utilized static QR codes, and 25.52 lakh passengers opted for traditional paper QR tickets.
To cater to the evolving needs of its passengers and to further boost ridership, CMRL has introduced a 20 percent discount on all ticketing options, which includes metro travel cards, mobile QR code tickets (single, return, group tickets, and QR trip passes), Whatsapp, and Paytm. Passengers now have the added convenience of booking their tickets through CMRL`s Whatsapp Ticketing System at +91 83000 86000 or via the Paytm platform.
CMRL has also witnessed various preferences in ticketing methods. In October, 3.53 lakh passengers chose Paytm, 2.10 lakh passengers preferred Whatsapp, 2.51 lakh passengers opted for token tickets, and 7,928 passengers utilized group ticketing.
