The news that has come out now is that the production of the first driverless metro train from CMRL would begin from the month of February 2024 onwards. It is now said that the driverless trains would be delivered in 6 months and trials would be conducted. Later on, these driverless trains would be used on the upcoming 116km metro phase-2 network.
The new driverless trains would have features like mobile charging points, additional security cameras etc. The designs of the driverless trains are now ready and the approval of the final version would be carried out soon. This was according to some CMRL officials.
It is worth mentioning here that the trains running on phase1 and phase 2 would be of the same blue colour. The trains that operate on phase-1 would have drivers but those on phase-2 would not have drivers. Information is cameras would be present both inside as well as the outside the coaches of these driverless metro trains in the front, rear and side.
Operations control centre & driverless train features etc:
Point to be noted is that the cameras would be monitored by the operations control centre. The trains would be brought to halt if any issue was present. The presence of obstruction detection features in the driverless trains would help in detecting the objects in the pathway and the trains would be halted. By this, the passenger travel would be superb and safe. One important feature of the driverless trains would be the absence of a driver cabin. The passengers would be able to sit in the front also.
The CMRL officials explained about how the mobile charging points have been set up in every coach. For the sake of an emergency exit, there would be a front door (apart from the common door) in the metro trains that would operate in the phase-2 network. It is known that at present the passengers use the existing doors to exit during the emergency situations. Testing and trials would start after the driverless trains get delivered in August 2024.
