Cyclone Michaung is fast approaching now. In anticipation of heavy rainfall, CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited has implemented a range of measures. It is important to note that CMRL would be deploying 350 water pumps, setting up of temporary retaining walls, stationing officers for monitoring, mobilizing more than 200 workers and police personnel etc.
To manage rainwater effectively, water pumps would be used in the premises of CMRL plus there would be preparedness at important metro stations like St Thomas Mt, Koyambedu, Arignar Anna Alandur metro, Wimco Nagar, Washermenpet etc.
To prevent water ingress, temporary retaining walls have been positioned at the entry points of 5 metro stations. It is learnt that the elevated corridors would be monitored by police personnel to prevent individuals from diverting rainwater into the premises of metro stations. From the CMRL operations control centre, a dedicated team would be monitoring metro stations.
