In February 2024, Chennai Metro trains saw a significant surge in passengers, with 86.15 lakh commuters utilizing the service. This marks a notable increase of 1.51 lakh passengers compared to January 2024, setting a new record for the highest ridership since the inception of the Metro Rail service.
During January 1st to January 31st, 2024, a total of 84,63,384 passengers traveled on the metro, while from February 1st to February 29th, 2024, the number rose to 86,15,008 passengers. The peak day for ridership was February 9th, 2024, with 3,26,786 passengers.
The QR code ticketing system was popular, with 35,05,644 passengers using it, including 2,12,344 online QR, 2,32,315 static QR, and 21,29,890 paper QR tickets. Additionally, 38,94,639 passengers opted for Travel Cards, 28,640 used Tokens, 5,959 availed the Group Ticket System, and 11 utilized the Singara Chennai Card (National Mobility Card).
Furthermore, Chennai Metro Rail Corporation extended a 20% fare discount across all ticket types, including QR codes, Travel Cards, WhatsApp tickets, Paytm App, and PhonePe, to encourage more passengers to use the service. Ticket bookings can be made through Chennai Metro Rail WhatsApp Ticket (+91 83000 86000) and Paytm App.
