Extended Suspension of MRTS Services Between Chennai Beach and Chintadaripet Stations

MRTS services between Chennai Beach and Chintadaripet stations will remain suspended for an additional four months. These services were halted in August 2023 to facilitate the construction of a 4.1km fourth line between Chennai Beach and Egmore stations. Officials from Southern Railway, briefing media personnel at the zonal headquarters, stated that services will not resume until June 2024. Originally slated for restoration this month (March 2024) upon completion of the fourth line, the deadline has been exceeded by several months. Southern Railway Heads of Departments acknowledged the delay and confirmed that MRTS services between Beach and Chintadaripet would only recommence in June. They also expressed uncertainty regarding the completion of the fourth line by that time.
