Southern Railway Targets June for Completion of Chennai Beach to Egmore 4th Railway Line!

Posted on: 13/Mar/2024 11:18:37 AM
The General Manager of Southern Railway has announced that the construction of the 4th railway line between Chennai Beach and Egmore is slated for completion by June. This new line, spanning 4.3 kilometers, has been proposed by Southern Railway and swiftly approved by the Railway Board at a cost of Rs. 279 crore.

In order to facilitate this construction, train services along the coastal Velachery flying railway line have been redirected to Chintadripet since August 27th of the previous year, with complete cessation of train traffic between Coastal and Chintadripet. However, passengers using the Chintadripet area are facing considerable inconvenience as a result.

Despite the promise of completion within six months, the construction progress has fallen short of expectations, although work is currently proceeding at a rapid pace. Consequently, the public is demanding adherence to the original timeline and resumption of regular train services.

At present, foundational work for the construction of the fourth lane is actively underway at 500 locations along the Coovam river, and three minor bridge constructions have already been finished on the Buckingham Canal. Additionally, the acquisition of a portion of land belonging to Chennai Medical College has been completed, along with the construction of the boundary wall, indicating significant progress in the project.

In light of these developments, Southern Railway`s General Manager, RN Singh, has reiterated the commitment to complete the 4th railway line between Chennai Beach and Egmore by June, ensuring the resumption of train operations on this route.
