Super news!! Operation of air-conditioned electric trains between Chennai and Chengalpet!!
Passengers travelling along the Chennai Beach - Chengalpet route have now got a reason to rejoice!!
The officials belonging to SR or Southern Railways, Chennai Division have confirmed that 2 air-conditioned electric trains would be operated on the Chennai Beach- Chengalpet route by the end of 2024.
It is known that passengers have been demanding for operation of a/c electric trains on the express route. Now, the railway management has been considering the demand of the passengers.
Like this, the TN govt is also putting its huge efforts. It must be recalled that in the year 2022 CMRL began the first phase of the feasibility study about operation of electric trains between Chennai Beach and Chengalpet. Now, this study will be completed. It is noteworthy that the Railway Board or RB has allotted 2 electric trains with 12 coaches to SR. Now, there is a plan to operate 2 air-conditioned electric trains between Chennai Beach and Chengalpet.
According to some officials, the SR a/c train would operate from the Chennai Beach- Chengalpet route on a trial basis. More such trains would be operated in the future depending on the response from the passengers. The officials concluded that efforts would be taken to develop dedicated infrastructure at Tambaram and Avadi to maintain the electric trains.
