ROB construction in Veppampattu in Chennai - Whats happening now?

Posted on: 27/Mar/2024 9:17:16 AM

More than a decade long wait is now over and finally some good news for the residents!!

The contractor has conducted the bhumi puja and work on the construction of rail over bridge or ROB has recently started at Veppampattu in Chennai. It is known that Veppampattu is one of the fastest developing suburban localities in Chennai. Truth is that the bhumi puja was held before the model code of conduct kicked in.

It was later revealed by some sources belonging to the state highways dept that since the work on one side could not be taken up due to stay, the other side was constructed. Point to be noted is that the legal battle took some years to get resolved and just last year the way was cleared. The officer then spoke about how a fresh design and estimate were drawn up as the new structure would have to be integrated with the old one.

In 2011, TN govt sanctioned Rs 29 cr for construction of 1045m long ROB that included 32.40m of railway portion that would replace level crossing 14. An amount of Rs 44.55cr was sanctioned in February. Information gathered is that about 40percent of the work was completed and railways have completed its portion of work over the tracks. It is noteworthy that both the sides of ROB would have to be joined with the railways structure. In about 12 months, the entire FOB construction work would be finished.

As per some residents, the resumption of FOB construction work at Veppampattu was superb. They have added that their travel time would be speeded up. They concluded that in the future time consuming wait at the puliamarathu gate would not be there.
