In the second phase of Chennai`s metro project, 138 driverless trains equipped with artificial intelligence and LCD screens are set to revolutionize public transportation. These trains, part of a ₹63,246 crore endeavor covering 118.9 km across three lines, aim to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance commuter experience.
Scheduled for operation from August 2025, these trains will serve corridors including Madhavaram to Sipcot, Light House to Poonamallee, and Madhavaram to Sholinganallur. They will utilize advanced technologies such as AI, GPS, and signal reading for efficient and safe travel.
Before their public debut, these trains will undergo rigorous testing for a year to ensure reliability. The first batch of 26 trains, serving the Poonamallee to Porur route, is expected to be operational by mid-next year.
Passenger amenities include spacious LCD screens displaying upcoming stops and local attractions, as well as convenient mobile charging spots. With these advancements, metro travel promises to offer a unique and enjoyable experience for commuters in Chennai.
