Tuesday, 30th of April 2024 was a very special day for Indian Coach Factory or ICF in Chennai.
The sensational piece of news is that the first Vande Metro train was rolled out from ICF yesterday and it grabbed the attention of many. The Vande Metro train is a shorter version of long distance running Vande Bharat or VB trains. It is now believed that there would be a better ride experience for the passengers in this Vande Metro train.
For the passengers who travel up to 250kms, Vande Metro trains would be superb. This was as per some officers belonging to the Railways. While the Vande Bharat sleeper trains would be running on the routes exceeding 1000kms, Vande Metro trains would be running on the routes between 100kms and 250kms. As many as 124 cities in India would be linked by Vande Metro trains.
Various routes on which Vande Metro trains would be running would be Chennai-Tirupati, Bhuvneshwar- Balasore, Agra- Mathura, Delhi-Rewari, Lucknow-Kanpur etc. It was brought out by some reports that Vande Metro trains would also connect other routes in TN like Chennai-Arakkonam etc.
Information collected is that passengers travelling between major urban centres and adjacent satellite towns etc would be benefited by Vande Metro trains. It is revealed by some officials that more passengers would be accommodated in the unreserved category.
Special features of Vande Metro trains:
It is learnt that these trains have been designed to have quick acceleration and will make frequent stops. There would be 12 coaches in each train and the train would have large automatic doors and side seats etc. There would be an additional standing room for the passengers. In July, the trial run is expected to begin and it would be followed by the testing of sleeper variants. Point is that these trains could be expanded up to 16 coaches.
