In June, Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) saw a record footfall of 84.33 lakh passengers, surpassing May`s 84.21 lakh and April`s 80.87 lakh. June 21 marked the highest single-day count with 3.27 lakh passengers.
Passenger ticketing methods included 31.33 lakh using travel cards, 1.86 lakh via online QR codes, 2.55 lakh through static QR codes, 21.30 lakh with paper QR codes, 4.06 lakh via Paytm, 4.33 lakh using WhatsApp, 2.72 lakh through PhonePe, 20,649 using ONDC, 30,752 with tokens, 3,757 using group ticketing, and 15.61 lakh with the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) or Singara Chennai Card.
For 2024, CMRL reported monthly ridership of 84.63 lakh in January, 86.15 lakh in February, and 86.82 lakh in March.
To encourage ridership, CMRL offers a 20% discount on all ticketing methods, including Metro travel cards, mobile QR codes (single, return, group tickets, and QR trip passes), WhatsApp, Paytm, and PhonePe. Tickets can be booked via CMRL`s WhatsApp (+91 83000 86000) and Paytm platforms.
