2nd day of Metro rail Project test-run

The test run of the metro rial project continued for the second day.

The cost of the project is Rs. 14,600 Crores. The total track length is 45 km with one section being at an elevated corridor and the other underground.

Test-run from Koyambedu depot to Koyambedu Station has been completed successfully. The first test-run is conducted on the elevated corridor. The test-run between Koyambedu and Ashok Nagar was started yesterday.

On the 2nd day, the press reporters were taken for the teat-run. The train with 4 coaches started at 12.05 PM deom Koyambedu and reached Ashok Nagar by 12.15 PM. The train was run at a speed of 40 km per hour. It was successful. The project details were presented to the reporters. The train carries some special features.

The system will unify the transportation in the city by linking Central Station, Egmore station, Koyambedu Inter-city bus terminus, and the airport. 42 trains will run. 9 are imported from Brazil. The rest will be from Andhra Pradesh. They will be run on automated basis.

They can run at a speed from 80 to 90 km per hour. 1276 people can travel in a single train. 176 seats are available with provision for standing for 1100.

Surveillance cameras have been installed. Care has been taken for any emergencies and also the differently-abled passengers. Information on the past station, the current station, and the next station will be announced. Route maps will be available throughout the train.Emergency butto n to contact the driver is available. Made of stainless steel, the train is fully air-conditioned with Ordinary and special classes and ladies’ compartment.

People cheered the test-run all the way. Sevices from Koyambedu to St. Thomas Mount is expected to start from June.
