2nd Metro Train manufactured in India reaches Chennai

The 2nd Chennai Metro train, manufacture in Tada, Andhra Pradesh, reached the workshop at Koyambedu Station on Tuesday early morning.

42 Metro trains with 4 coaches each will be run in Chennai Metro Rail Project. Alstom, a private company from Brazil, is manufacturing the trains. 5 trains were manufactured at their Brazil manufacturing plant and have been shipped to Chennai. Another 4 trains are to arrive before July.

Alstom has set up a factory in Tada, Andhra Pradesh to manufacture the rest of the trains. The first train manufactured here was handed over to the Chennai Metro Rail authorities last month.

The 2nd train was dispatched from Tada, Andhra Pradesh, by a truck on 10th March. This consignment reached Chennai early morning on Tuesday, 11th March and brought to Metro Koyambedu Station workshop

Test run will be conducted for these trains shortly.

Each coach costs Rs. 9 Crores. The total cost of Rs. 1471.39 Crores has been allotted.

The balance 31 trains are expected delivered by the year end.
