Residents of few congested roads in north Chennai may feel some loosen up, since new alternative roads will be occupying soon to avoid traffic roads.Preliminary road work has been initiated for a stretch of nearly 11km in the north Buckingham road by the Water Resource Department (WRD).
WRD is carrying out this project at a cost of Rs. 9 Crores under the act of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. The WRD department proposes to complete the road-laying project by May.
Officials of the WRD explained that the canal scampers for a distance of 17.3 km from Central railway station to Ennore Creek, had been enlarged and endowed with a flood-protection wall. The road will be laid on stretches of Bharathi Nagar, Korukupet, Nehru Nagar, IOC and Kargil Nagar in Tiruvottiyur and Ennore.
As per the plan, once the road has been attained, residents will be freed from traffic congestion especially along the Manali Express way and the Ennore High Road.
We intend to complete the road at least for a minimum of 2 km wide by this month end, said the official. Using this new road, public from Korukupet and Tiruvottiyur can move faster to the other parts of the city.
