A study published in the journal Comprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety says that drinking moderate amounts of coffee may have more benefits than risks in adults. The study was conducted by researchers at the Ulster University in the UK.

The researchers studied 1,277 studied that dated from 1970 till date on the effect of coffee on human health. Results showed that regular, moderate coffee drinking  essentially has a neutral effect on health, or can be mildly beneficial. Regular and moderate coffee drinking is defined as 3 to 4 cups per day.

This review was then used to create a list of the potential health benefits and risks of coffee consumption on total mortality, cardiovascular disease, cancer, metabolic health, neurological disorders, gastrointestinal conditions and other miscellaneous health outcomes. On looking into this data, researchers found that the potential benefits of moderate coffee drinking outweighed the risks in adult consumers for the majority of major health outcomes considered.
