Why shouldn’t you give fruit juice to babies under 1 year?

A study was recently conducted about giving fruit juice to infants under 1 year of age. As per the study by the American Academy of Pediatrics published in the journal Pediatrics, it had earlier told all parents to wait until the child grows 6 months old. This has however extended the timing because of increase in tooth cavities complaint and obesity.

There is no specific reason for recommending juice as a part of potential recommendation for 6 to 12 months old kids, says Dr Steeven A. Abrams, the chairman of the Department of Pediatrics.

For this age group, breastfeeding is most recommended and there is no need for juice. Since 2001, this is the very first change in recommendation by the academy.

It’s not teeth friendly
Teenagers and children consume a lot of fresh juice in the US, says a policy statement note. The problem starts with the parents stick a sippy cup to the kid’s mouth. This will be left throughout the day which is not a healthy aspect in terms of calorie intake perspective. It’s not good for the teeth. When they get used to drinking such sweet sugary juice, they will not show interest in drinking water.
