SCOUTS AND GUIDES MUST BE COMPULSORY: BARNALA

Surjit Singh Barnala, the Governor of Tamilnadu suggested that Scouts and Guides must be made compulsory as they help students develop leadership qualities and nurture discipline and Unity. The Governor was speaking on the occasion of presenting Rajyapurskar awards to more than 7000 Scouts and Guides from all over the state.

PAKISTANI PATIENT TREATED FOR PARKINSON IN CHENNAI.

Mohammed Arif a Parkinson patient for last six years has been successfully treated a Apollo Specialty Hospital using “Deep Brain Stimulation” [DBS]. Arif Mohammed hailing from Peshawar was diagnosed with Parkinsonianism around 2003, had developed severe side effects for the last one and half years.

JAPANESE ART AND CULTURE SHOW CASED.

‘Passage to the future: Art from a New Generation in Japan’ a Japanese art exhibition was on show at Lalit Kala Akademi, Chennai. The Exhibition was organized by the consulate General of Japan at Chennai, ABK-AOTS Dosakai and Japan Foundation. Works of 11 artists from Japan have been exhibited.

DESALINATION PLANT AT NEMMELI

Foundation stone for establishing 100 Million Litres per day desalination plant at Nemmeli has been laid by the Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday. Announcing on the occasion Stalin said that the plant is scheduled to be operational by December, 2011.

THIRD NANO TECH INITIATIVE THROUGH A SCHOOL IN CHENNAI.

Third Nano Technologyintiative has been launched by a trilateral- India, Brazil, SouthAfrica initiative. Dr Baldev Raj, Director of Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic research and National Co-coordinator of India for the IBSA Nano Technology Initiative said that the third school on advanced materials would focus on advanced aspects of Nanomaterials with specific emphasis on sensor applications.

TRAINS RESCHEDULED DUE TO MAINTAINCE ON WEDNESDAY

Southern Railway announced the rescheduling of the following trains on Wednesday as rebuilding of a bridge between Ottakovil and Ariyalur on Villupuram- Trichy section is taken up on Wednesday. Chennai, Egmore- Madurai- Vaigai Express – 2635 - will leave Egmore at 2 PM.

FLY OVER IN PORUR FINALLY

The state highways department has finally decided to build fly over at Arcot Road – Mount Poonamellee highway junction at Porur. The work is expected to start this week. A Four lane project at a cost of Rs 35 Crores is launched by ground breaking ceremony on Thursday.

The new Two Rupee coin in Ferritic Stainless steel would have the face of Louis Braille and his name written in Braille on one side and the other side would have as usual the value of the coin.. Louis Braille is the inventor of language developed for the visually impaired persons.

BIO-SAFETY OF GM MOSQUITO IS NOT CONFIRMED YET

S Elango, the Director of Public Health said bio-safety of Genetically Modified mosquitoes being developed by the researches worldwide to fight diseases like Malaria, Chikungunya, Dengue and vector- borne diseases need clarification. Unless the concerned bodies clarify and directorate becomes sure, they will not recommend GM Mosquitoes to Government for application.

MORE ENGINEERING COLLEGES IN TAMILNADU

As per P Mannar Jawahar, Vice Chancellor, Anna University and Regional Chairman, AICTE, around 100 applications have been received for starting new Engineering Colleges in Tamilnadu. With last date for application has been extended to 28th February more application are expected to be submitted.

CHENNAI MARATHON WON BY A KENYAN.

Chennai Marathon 2010 held at marina on Sunday was organized by the Sports Authority of India. Participants included were national and international athletes. Augustine Rona of Kenya won the event clocking two hours 14 minutes, who was also the winner of Pune Marathon. Santhosh Kumar of UP came second.

OVER BRIDGE WORK AT RED HILLS ON CHENNAI- KOLKATA HIGHWAY FAST TRACKED.

The over bridge work near Puzal Lake at Red hills on Chennai – Kolkata highway has commenced and is speeded up . The project cost estimated to be around Rs 6.5 Crores and is expected to ease traffic moving into AP. Chief Minister Karunanidhi has ordered the completion of the project by the end of March.

NO RESTRICTION TO STUDENTS’ VISA TO US: US ENVOY.

Vice Consul for the US Consulate General in Chennai, Mr. Benesh said that US has no plans to restrict visas to students going to study in the US. . He spoke in the Education Expo which was conducted in Chennai. Currently it is estimated that annually about one lakh students go to the US to study and the number is increasing.

Southern Railway has announced weekly special train to Nagerkoil from February 25 th March 26th, 2010. The train Chennai – Nagerkoil - No; 0625 – on Thursday s will start from Egmore at 08 PM and reach Nagerkoil the next day morning at 11 AM.

DESALINATION PLANT IN NEMMELI TO BE COMPLETED BY 2011.

The Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin announced that work order for Desalination plant had been issued. The plant is to come up on 40 acre site at a cost Rs 533 Crore. The work is expected to start soon, has been scheduled to be completed by December, 2011 according to Stalin.
