In TN, sale of abortion pills to be regulated

These days the sale of abortion pills in TN is on the rise. It is well known that these pills are used by women to terminate their unwanted pregnancies. The news is to regulate the sale of these abortion pills in the state of TN the TN Drugs Control Administration has been taking huge effort and is taking steps to regulate the sale of these pills. According to the department of drug control, 30 chemists have come under the scanner and the chemists under scrutiny would face legal action for selling the abortion pills without any prescription.

An official expressed his views on this and spoke about how the abortion pills must be sold under the valid prescription of the registered medical practitioner. It is important to mention that some brands mandate prescription from the gynaecologists. He revealed that the chemists would face legal action for selling such pills without prescription. The important information collected is kit of abortion pills contains 5 tablets belonging to 2 categories of drugs namely misoprostol and mifepristone.

The shocking piece of news is these abortion pills could trigger an abortion but it could also create life threatening problems for the woman when the pills were taken without the advice of a doctor or without any medical prescription. Officials then added that the unregulated sale of abortion pills were brought to their notice during the review meetings by the public health officials

The point is the officials belonging to Drug Control Department collect distribution details from the manufacturers. In the next step these officials inspect retail chemists and check if they had entered names and addresses of patients who purchased the pills plus the names and addresses of the doctors in the prescription registers. The official later explained about how if the address of the patient was available in the register then the patient gets checked regarding the presence of valid prescription for the abortion pills. In the absence of address in the register then it is regarded as sold without prescription. It was pointed out that further investigation would be carried out and legal action would be taken against such chemists.
