Prepaid energy consumption meters to be functional from April throughout India

The central government has decided to install prepaid electrical energy consumption meters as mandatory throughout the country.
This system is scheduled to be implemented from 1st April. The energy meters used in this system are known as ‘smart prepaid meters’. Just as the mobile phones are regularly being recharged, the electricity bill payments can be recharged on this smart energy meter. With this system, the electricity providing agency benefits with the advance payments being made, the power distribution agencies/companies will also benefit.
As per the central government plan, the smart meters will be connected in all the houses. The meters will record the extent of electrical energy consumption at different times during the day and transmit the same to the power distribution agency.
The customer will also be able to get these data, the consumption of electricity can be planned in advance as per the available data on the present trend of the electrical energy consumption is available. The customers can also avail the facility to pay their electricity consumption bills as per their convenience by recharging on a monthly basis or on a required day.
