This piece of news would certainly bring happiness to the residents of Chennai city.

To provide the connectivity to Chennai Central, this Friday, 2 key metro lines from Chennai Central to Shenoy Nagar, AG-DMS to Little Mount via Saidapet and four stations would be launched for the sake of the public. After the delay of more than 2 years now the lines are ready to be opened and it would be superb.

On 25th of May 2018, Central metro, Egmore metro, Shenoy Nagar and four other stations between AG-DMS and Little Mount on Anna Salai would be inaugurated. This was confirmed by none other than Mr. M.C. Sampath who is the state industries minister. One important piece of information is chief minister for the state of TN has also been invited. This forthcoming inaugural function would take place at Egmore metro. Mr. M.C. Sampath grabbed many eyeballs on Tuesday, 22nd May, when he inspected the arrangements made in the stations.

The opening of 5.62 km line between Shenoy Nagar and Chennai Central metro would be of huge advantage to the public. The commuters would be able to get train every 5 minutes and could go to Shenoy Nagar, Anna Nagar, CMBT, St. Thomas Mount etc easily. The commuters would also be able to board direct metro service to the airport or they could reach Anna Salai by shifting corridors at the Alandur metro.

It is important to note that only the upper track level connecting the stations on Poonamallee High Road would be opened at Central and lower track lining Anna Salai is yet to be ready for usage.

The good news is commuters arriving at the busy DMS and Saidapet bus stops plus from many nearby localities would be benefited because the 4.5 km stretch between Little Mount and AG-DMS would be utilized. By shifting corridors at Alandur station, passengers would be able to go to CMBT or Central metro. The previous deadline for opening of these two stretches was December 2015 and these 2 stretches were delayed nearly for 2 years. This has caused few issues for the commuters.

It must not be forgotten that the work in Anna Salai line was stopped for a year because a Russian contractor in-charge of the work between May Day Park and Saidapet abandoned work due to financial issues. The pending works were given to new firms and this was done by opening bids once again. The contracts were given in small packages to firms by the government.

Mr. K. A. Manoharan who is the commissioner of metro rail safety and his team members made many heads turn when they inspected various tunnels and stations last week. The commissioner spoke about how the authorization would be issued this week and it would be based on certain conditions such as completion of amenities for the passengers at the stations.

He later highlighted that there is need for second entrance at the Chennai Central metro for evacuating the passengers during the times of emergency. Presently there is just one entry point ready in Central metro.
