The summer season commences from 1st March and lasts till April, and end of May. Presently, the summer has commenced. It has been quite hot in Tamil Nadu. As the impact of the heat increases, there is the prospect for a variety of diseases affecting the public. Here are some tips, which will help prevent getting affected by the summer diseases:

It is generally possible for the public to be affected by smallpox and diarrhoea during the summer season. The water content in the body tends to get reduced due to the strong impact of the heat. This will lead to complaints such as high blood pressure, sleeplessness, painful urination complaint, jaundice, etc. In order to prevent this, one must regularly and daily take 2.5 to 3 litres of water. Do not use thick clothing for children.

When the skin gets dry, it affects the urinary system. When the profuse sweating occurs, prickly heat will also come up. Parts of the skin will be mildly swollen. To prevent this, one has to take bath twice in the day – in the morning and in the evening.

Do not drink chilled water immediately while returning to te house after some outing. It is better to drink lukewarm water.

During summer, urinary system disorder is a common complaint. Excessive sweating, failure to drink sufficient quantiy of water, etc., are the main reasons for this. When the water content in the body gets reduced, the urine production is also less. The salt contents which are let out through urine get hardened in this condition and tend to crystallize and get deposited in the urinary tract. Drinking sufficient water will prevent this.

It is recommended to take naturally cool items available during the summer season such as tender coconut, buttermilk, palm-tree ender water, and palm-jelly (nungu).

The mineral ingredients present in tender coconut such as Potassium, Sodium, Calcium, and Magnesium, etc., absorb the body heat and reduces the body temperature to be consistent with the ambient heat level.

Apart from the above cool items, one can take fruits with rich water content such as watermelon, cucumber, guava, papaya, sweet lime, orange, and sweet melon or their juices.

As the 2-wheeler drivers spend a lot of time driving in the sun, they can wear the ‘sunglasses’.

With all the above habits, one can certainly prevent getting affected by the summer season special diseases!
