On Wednesday, TN recorded as many as 34875 Covid-19 infection cases and it was the highest number of daily cases recorded across India yesterday. This has now grabbed many eyeballs.

As the Coronavirus pandemic has entered the rural hamlets and villages with high intensity, the health officials are now staring at a grim situation.

In Chennai, as many as 6297 fresh cases were reported and it was less than 20% of the total numbers reported in TN. It must not be forgotten that in the last week, Chennai had around 7500 fresh Coronavirus positive cases per day. When compared to other districts in TN, the western parts of TN have been reporting more numbers of cases. The districts of Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode have 25951 active cases, 7092 active cases and 7652 active cases respectively. Truth is that districts such as Ariyalur and Dharmapuri etc have also reported significant numbers of Coronavirus cases.

Public have been forced to shift to large cities for their treatment as there are no private healthcare centres plus scant government facilities etc. It was mentioned by some health officials that the public were neither following Covid-19 protocols nor are they getting vaccinated. The sad truth is that the public has still not taken this infection seriously. On Tuesday, Trichy reported 1271 cases but on Wednesday it reported 1459 cases (4% increase in the cases)

As per Dr. Visvanathan, radiologist at Covid-19 ward of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government hospital in Trichy, if only people had followed the norms then there would not have been so many Covid-19 cases. He explained how inspite of many announcements regarding the attenders of Covid-19 patients not to stay in the hospitals the attenders wait throughout the day with patients.

He added that most people were still unaware about the vaccination and those who were aware have some fear of getting vaccinated. People have been roaming about without the fear of transmission of the infection in Ranipet despite the health department coming out with several restrictions. This was mentioned by deputy director of health service Mr. V. Manimaran. Despite conducting many awareness programmes, people still do not show proper response.
