The data from GCC revealed that when compared to central and southern parts of Chennai, the containment zones are increasing at a huge speed now in the north Chennai.
From 9th May to 17th May, the total number of containment zones (streets with more than 10 cases) increased by 22.8%. Shocking information is that the number of containment zones grew by 61.2% in north Chennai (zones 1 to 5). Containment zones in the central regions of Chennai, that is zones 6 to 10 grew by 11.6% and in south Chennai (zones 11to 15) grew by 28.6%.
On 17th May, Chennai had a total of 890 containment zones out of which northern zones had 158 containment zones. Central regions of Chennai had 493 containment zones and southern regions had 243 containment zones. From 28th April to 9th May, the containment zones in north regions grew by just 4% whereas those in central and southern regions grew by 113% and 148% respectively. It was revealed that the difference was due to uniform increase in all north region zones from 9th to 17th May period.
From 3, the number of containment zones in Manali increased to 10 and from 5 the number increased to 21 in Madhavaram. In the last week, the GCC officers stepped up their concentration on these areas is known.
From 84, the number of containment zones in Ambattur (zone 7) reduced to 67 and this was in the central region. Truth is that the number of such zones in Teynampet of zone 9 remained steady at 177.This is the highest ever in Chennai city.
It must be noted that Teynampet zone has also got the highest number of wards (11) with more than 10 Coronavirus cases. During the same period, the containment zones in Valasaravakkam of zone 11 and Alandur of zone 12 increased by 37percent.
Information gathered is that Adyar zone is the only zone that has got 2 wards 175 and 177 with more than 20 containment zones each. Other locations like ward 123 in Teynampet and ward 124 in Kodambakkam have got more than 20 containment zones.
