The health experts have raised alarm against the third Covid-19 infection wave in the state of TN. They feel that the third wave is possible later in the year in India. The superb piece of information is that this third wave would be less severe on the children.
According to Dr. S. Ezhilarasi, director of ICH, most of the kids who were affected in this second infection wave now have just mild symptoms. She hinted that even if more kids get affected the situation could be handled well. It must be noted that a 9 storey building would be converted into a pandemic ward and ICU with adequate facilities. When compared to the first wave the number of children who got affected was twice in this second wave. The shocking truth is that kids in the age groups 5 to 12 were affected by the infection.
As per Dr. S. Balasubramanian, HOD, paediatrics, Kanchi Kamakoti Childs Trust Hospital, the third wave would not be severe on the kids. He threw light on how the number of children who would be affected by the third wave would be minimal but it might be more when compared to the second wave. Not every child who gets affected by Covid-19 needs hospitalisation but just 1to 3% only. He concluded that many children’s hospitals now are empty and there would not be any oxygen beds shortage.
It was pointed out by Dr. Jayanthi Viswanathan, senior consultant-Paediatrics, Glenedes Global Health City that many private paediatric hospitals were prepared to face the rise in cases.
