The state government of Tamil Nadu has taken various strong and immediate initiatives to prevent coronavirus spreading. The state government has ordered the educational institutions, Anganwadi Centres, Commercial Complexes, Tasmac Bars, Theatres, Parks, Museums, etc., to be closed until 31st March.
The Central Government has declared the coronavirus spread as a National Disaster. A review meeting on the prevention of coronavirus was conducted yesterday (Monday, 16th March) at the State Government Chief Secretariat.
Orders released by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswamy after the meeting:
- Schools, colleges, universities, training institutes and all academic institutions will be closed until 31st March.
- The public examinations for 10th Standard, +1, and +2, College examinations, Practical examinations, and Entrance Examinations will be conducted as scheduled.
- The hostels and residential academic institutions will continue functioning. All medical and medical-related colleges will continue functioning.
- Anganwadi centres all will be closed until 31st March. For the children fed here in the Anganwadis, the food items required for 15 days will be handed over to the respective families of the Anganwadi student.
- All theatres, commercial complexes, entertainment complexes, swimming pools, gymnasiums, zoological parks, and museums will remain closed until 31st March.
- Except for the already scheduled programmes, no new events should be organised in the marriage halls. The events should be planned with the minimum people participating.
- If a less number of public gathers in wedding and other occasions, also the death events, the spreading of coronavirus will be prevented on a large scale.
- Permission should NOT be grated for organising events such as processions, public meetings, summer-session training programmers/camps, conferences, seminars, and sports competitions until 31st March.
- All sports arenas, clubs, Tasmac Bars, Entertainment centres, etc., must also be closed. Except these, all other important activities will continue as usual.
- Sufficient stocks of soaps, disinfectants, and masks must be kept to be given to the employees in factories and companies.
- Avoid undertaking family tours/picnics. The tourist resorts, residential arrangements must remain closed until 31st March.
- Gathering of crowds must be avoided in places such as temples, churches, and mosques. If false rumour or panic is created regarding coronavirus, immediate stringent legal action will be taken.
- All the above orders come into effect from today (Tuesday, 17th March).
The Chief Secretary of the Tamil Nadu State Government, Shanmugam has written a letter to all the Department Secretaries to avoid conducting meetings except in cases of extreme emergencies. He has mentioned in his letter: all employees and visitors entering the Chief secretariat must be allowed in only after thorough checking. Departmental Secretaries should avoid conducting meetings. Only in case of dire emergencies, meetings may be organised!
