The number of Covid-19 cases has increased in Chennai and the new TN government is taking many steps to keep the infection under control. The GCC have deployed fever surveillance workers to do door-to-door surveys.

It must be noted that the residents from a few neighbourhoods have not been allowing fever survey workers from reaching their homes. The residents were of the view that new infection cases might arise due to the fever surveillance workers.  For surveillance of fever cases, GCC has deployed about 12000 fever survey workers in 15 GCC zones.

The fever surveillance workers went to the houses belonging to ward 32 to check Spo2 and body temperature etc. These workers were prevented from entering the premises. It has been brought to light by representatives of sanitary inspectors that a fight took place between the fever surveillance workers and a person. The fever surveillance workers were asked not to enter the houses as they have been cited as the reason for the spread of the Covid-19 infection in their neighbourhoods.

The GCC officials have complained to the police department to take action against those residents stopping the corporation workers and not allowing them to do their work. Truth is that the police came very late and they did not take any action against residents for fighting with the fever surveillance workers. According to a sanitary inspector, the fever surveillance workers are now concerned about their safety and want the police to help them.

As per the deputy commissioner of Health, Dr. Alby Verghese, the fever survey workers have been vaccinated and they have taken precautions to prevent any infection. He hinted that there have been few incidents in the past and the issues have been resolved. Finally, he spoke about how the residents have been asked to cooperate with the fever survey workers.
