Sensational news!! Coronavirus spread declining now in Chennai - TPR reduces

After many weeks of continuous increase in the Coronavirus infection spread in Chennai, here comes a superb piece of news that would make the Chennai residents happy.

On 10th  of May 2021, the test positivity rate or TPR in Chennai was 26% and on 17th of May TPR was 21.1%. By this, it is clear that 21 out of 100 persons tested are becoming Covid19 positive in Chennai. On 10th May, the number of fresh cases was 7148 and this was reduced to 6150 on 17th May. It must be noted that around 30000 Coronavirus tests are being carried out every day in Chennai. Superb piece of information is that the Covid-19 spread has been declining now in Chennai.

Former director of public health, Dr. K. Kolandasamy has explained about how both the total lock down as well as vaccination has been the reasons for the declining of the Covid-19 cases now in Chennai. Many public health experts were also of the view that lockdown alone was not the reason for reduction in the cases.

Dr. Kolandasamy stated that some sections might have become more immune due to massive rise in cases and the simultaneous vaccine coverage would also have played a huge role in stopping the spread of the infection.

As per Dr. Jacob John, famous virologist, the lock down effect would be seen after 2 weeks of time. Natural tendency of the virus has also been given as the reason for the declining trend. Point to be noted is that if there is a continuous decrease in the cases in the coming days then it could be due to the various control measures undertaken by the corporation. He assured that the number of Covid-19 cases would come down soon in TN. Information collected is that Chennai’s Covid-19 growth has also reduced from 3.8% on 10th May to 1.85 now.
