In TN, from today, vaccination to begin for those in the age groups 18 to 44 - Sputnik V to be given also for public

It has been more than 2 weeks since the central government announced the third phase of the vaccination drive for those in the age groups 18 to 44. Now, TN has announced that from Thursday, 19th May 2021 onwards the above said age groups would be vaccinated. An order was issued for 13.85 lakhs vaccination doses by the government of TN. Information is that TN received 9.62 lakh doses that includes 7.95 lakhs Covishield vaccines and 1.66lakhs of Covaxin doses.
It is learnt that for the persons above the age of 45 the vaccines procured from the central government would be administered. It was later mentioned by an officer that the pending 4.23 lakh doses would be received soon. Before the end of May month, the centre would supply about 5.89 lakh doses of vaccines for those in the age group of 45 and above.
Mr. M. Subramanian, health minister, spoke about how Sputnik V would also be given to the people in TN. He added that if there are approvals for any other vaccines in TN then those also could be procured in TN. Truth is that global tenders have been placed already for several crores of doses.
It is worth mentioning that till now nearly 70 lakh persons have got atleast first dose of vaccination and once when the number reaches 5crores then there would be huge reduction in the Coronavirus cases. On Tuesday, as many as 50091 persons got vaccinated and till now a total of 7013735 shots have been administered in TN.
