Making hay while the sun shines!!
This is exactly what small clinics present in places like Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupathur, Tiruvannamalai etc are doing now in this second Coronavirus infection wave. It seems that small clinics in the above said places have not been following government rules in charging the patients.
In the guise of treating fever cases, the small clinics manage to push 2 or 3 beds and admit patients with Covid-19 infection. The shocking truth is that when the Covid-19 infection worsens then these small clinics advise the family members to take the patient to nearby big hospitals.
Tiruvannamalai district was recently in the news when some health officers recently sealed a small clinic near Arani bus stand as the doctor there was treating Covid-19 patients with cots lined up with oxygen cylinders on the street and under trees etc. It must be noted that a doctor in the town who was not interested in treating Covid-19 patients in the first wave has been treating the patients for Rs 15000 now.
It is the fear of death due to this Covid-19 infection that is making many patients hurry up to small clinics for treatment. This was brought out by Tirupattur collector Mr. Sivan Arul. Information collected was that the rate of patients approaching the quacks for treatment has been high in this Tirupattur district. As per a health professional, it was clear that these issues could be avoided by ramping up the facilities in the government hospitals and these hospitals must charge only a minimum amount from the patients.
