The health department has been taking huge effort to control the spread of Covid-19 infection is a well known fact.

Recently, educational institutions like IIT-M and Sri Sathya Sai Medical College near Chennai reported clusters in their hostels. This has created panic among the public now. These new Covid-19 infection cases pose a huge challenge to the efforts of the health department in keeping the cases under control. As many as42 persons tested positive for Covid-19 infection in the above said medical college on Saturday.

Dt. T.S. Selvavinayam, director of public health expressed his thoughts. He spoke about how most educational institutions failed to follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour. He mentioned that Covid19 clusters could be avoided if people get vaccinated and follow Covid appropriate behaviour.

Whenever such clusters come out, multi-level supervision would be required to keep them in control. This was as per the health secretary Mr. J. Radhakrishnan. Collectors and other health officers must keep a track of students with travel history.

He added that close monitoring of those students who had come from other states and have participated in any cultural or sports/academic inter-state events. The symptomatic persons must be checked and their contacts must be traced.

For clusters identified, saturation tests must be carried out compulsorily. The positive cases must be isolated and treated in the isolation facilities on the campus. The eligible persons must get vaccinated in the vaccination camps for Covid-19 infection for the sake of their health. The state of TN currently has 88% sero-positivity.
