IIT Madras, in collaboration with multinational company RRD, has launched *‘Thiramai – Sports 4 All,’* a three-day adaptive sports event for persons with disabilities (PwDs) on its campus. The inaugural event, held from November 22 to 24, welcomed 100 participants who competed in eight adaptive sports, including wheelchair basketball, badminton, tennis, cricket, racing, and boccia, as well as javelin, discus, and shot put.
Professor Sathyanarayana N Gummadi, dean (students), inaugurated the event, emphasizing the importance of empowering PwDs through adaptive sports and fostering talent for future opportunities. The initiative spans three events over 2024-2025, with the first two focused on training mobility-impaired participants and the final event expanding to a broader range of disabilities.
