The state general secretary of the Tamil Nadu electricity employees federation has informed the following. It is time for a salary revision for the TANGEDCO employees. The number of contract workers in TANGEDCO has been increasing each passing day.
Though a minimum wage of Rs. 312 per day is offered by TANGEDCO to the contract employees, the contractors pay only Rs. 150 per day. In this situation, it is required to make all these contract employees (around 7000) permanent.
As the state government of Tamil Nadu has entered into an agreement with the central government on UDAY Project, this may lead to heavy losses to both the power consumers and the TANGEDCO employees. This plan may lead the revision of electricity charges every 3 months. Also, it is a pressing issue to fill up the 40000 vacancies in TANGEDCO in various cadres.
UDAY (Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana) is the financial turnaround and revival package for electricity distribution companies of India initiated by the Government of India with the intent to find a permanent solution to the financial problem that the power distribution is in.
