New solution provided by the metro water dept for Chennai people in narrow streets

In Chennai, there are many narrow lanes or streets where the metro water tankers cannot go and supply water to the residents. As a result, the people living in these streets face issues are known.
The latest piece of news is engineers belonging to the metro water department have now come up with a new home grown solution. The important point is the engineers are connecting hose pipes of 200 m long to the lorry’s that carry water and laying them down through narrow alleys or passageway. In the next step, these narrow alleys are connected to T shaped pipes set up at regular intervals.
By this people would be able to draw water directly. These days we could come across many women with pots walking long distances for the sake of water. This issue would not be there anymore. Important information gathered is in narrow lanes some people who co-ordinate the entire water supply to 100 odd residents get commission amount also for filling their pots.
An official belonging to the metro water department explained about how the residents now get water right in front of their houses without any issues and without paying any commission. It must be noted that the first such experiment was carried out successfully at Subbarayan Street belonging to Royapuram area. It is superb to mention that 100 to 150 families were benefited by this.
This superb idea of using hosepipes to provide water to the residents living in narrow lanes was discussed in a meeting that took place last week. The idea was then approved. It is now brought out that this idea would be followed in places like Anna Nagar, Saidapet, Triplicane etc having many narrow lanes.
It is important to mention here that the network of T-shaped pipes cost about Rs 25,000 per street and the hosepipes cost extra money. There are some areas having old pipelines and in these areas T shaped pipes would be set up. Water would be pumped into the existing water sumps and from these sumps the water could be pumped to each household. This was later confirmed by an engineer of metro water department.
The good news that has come out now is the pipes and hoses would be set up in a day and the work has already started in Pullapuram and Shastri Nagar slum in Anna Nagar. By this 3000 families would be benefited. This was according to an official.
