For the daily commute, these residents would have a faster and comfortable mode of transport. The government is planning to have a transit system, metro rail or light metro line. In the future, CMRL would be conducting feasibility studies and prepare a detailed project report or DPR. It is known that CMRL operates 45 km metro rail network in Chennai.

On Monday, TN governor, Mr Banwarilal Purohit revealed how the traffic congestion on the Velachery- Tambaram corridor has been increasing and how the government of India would establish a rail-based transit system for a total of 15.5 km. He added that CMRL would prepare a feasibility report.

It must not be forgotten that Velachery Main Road was one of the routes proposed to be linked by monorail between Velachery and Vandalur through Madipakkam, Pallikaranai, Medavakkam, Selaiyur and Tambaram. It has been mentioned by some sources that the new transit line would come up along the Velachery Main Road.

An official spoke about how the above said localities are developing faster and the commuters would be able to travel to Guduvanchery and beyond easily if this link (Velachery and Tambaram) is connected. There are 2 main factors involved here and these are the investment by the government plus the potential passenger traffic along the corridor. It is now said that based on these factors decision to operate rail service would be taken.

Collection of extensive data on public transport users and private vehicles on the route would form the feasibility study. Point is based on the present passenger traffic, a forecast for the coming decades and peak hour traffic would be assessed. In the next step, the type of rail system suitable for the stretch would be decided.
