Chennai marathon had more than 16000 people taking part for superb cause

Skechers Performance Chennai Marathon 2020 or SPCM 2020 has been organised by Chennai Runners and Skechers Performance. On Sunday, 5th January more than 16,000 people took part in this marathon.

The major objectives for conducting this marathon was to support education for the underprivileged, special kids and to provide training support for para-athletes. It is worthy to note that the Chennai runners by this SPCM 2020 have adopted the Kazhipattur Lake near Siruseri as primary charity cause.

Clearing the garbage plus other activities like cleaning and rejuvenating the lake to restore its original glory and to full storage capacity are also some of the major goals under the project.

Men’s full marathon was won by Kenyan Felex Rop and women’s full marathon was won by Rasipuram based K. Suguna. The amount of Rs 25 lakhs was distributed to the winners in various categories this time. It is superb to mention here that people from various walks of life took part in the marathon.

From the cardio rehabilitation wing of CMC Vellore, there were 9 patients who ran in the 21km category and 18 patients ran in the 10km category. Running is a part of the rehabilitation project and this was confirmed by a doctor belonging to CMC Vellore. By running, the pumping capacity of the heart gets improved and it would be possible to maintain fitness.

Recently ‘Kavalan’ App was launched by the Chennai police for the safety of women. On Sunday, additional DGP (law and order), Mr Jayanth Murali and a team of police personnel ran by holding the banner of Kavalan App. Important information collected is this marathon was the eighth edition and more people are taking part in the running to keep themselves fit and healthy. This was later revealed by Mr Yasir Sultan, core team member of Chennai Runners.
