Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) announced a temporary suspension of drinking water supply in zones 4-6, 8, and 9 on July 25th and 26th. The suspension comes as Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is set to carry out crucial interconnection pipeline works between the Kilpauk sewage treatment plant and the pumping station in Purasaiwakkam Main Road.
During the two-day period, water supply will be halted in Tondiarpet zone (zone 4), Royapuram zone (zone 5), Thiru Vi Ka Nagar zone (zone 6), Anna Nagar zone (zone 8), and Teynampet (zone 9) from 10 am on Tuesday to 10 am on Wednesday. Residents in these areas are advised to store adequate water to meet their needs during this period.
CMRL`s ongoing underground work involves interconnecting the existing 1050 mm diameter pipeline at the Kilpauk sewage treatment plant with a new 1,000 mm pipeline at the pumping station in Purasaiwakkam Main Road. This infrastructure enhancement is aimed at bolstering the efficiency and capacity of the city`s water supply and sewage systems.
For emergency drinking water requirements, residents can register and request water through trucks (Dial for Water) via the CMWSSB website - https://cmwssb.tn.gov.in. However, areas without water connections and low-pressure regions will continue to receive water supply through tanks and trucks without any disruption.
