Getting funds from the foreign agencies must be considered by the TN state government regarding implementing the airport-Kilambakkam metro line project. This was mentioned by Mr. Anbumani, President of the PMK party. He spoke about how shortage of funds must not be a cause for the dropping of the above said project. He added that the reports about dropping of the above said project between airport and Kilambakkam was shocking. It is known to us that a new bus terminus is getting readied at Kilambakkam in southern Chennai to reduce the traffic congestion.
In a few months, the new bus terminus at Kilambakkam would be open for the public use and passengers would have to travel about 50kms to places such as Ennore and Thiruvottriyur from Kilambakkam. There must be sufficient traffic arrangements to help the public. There is a huge need now to provide a metro train link between the airport and Kilambakkam. Beyond a certain level, frequency of MTC buses cannot be increased and only suburban trains and metro trains could transport the passengers.
In the year 2021 DPR for airport- Kilambakkam metro line was prepared and it took more than a year for the TN govt to give their approval for the plan. For this project, a mammoth amount of Rs 4080 crores would be required. It is noteworthy that the Central govt has not been providing funds for Rs 61843 cr second phase metro line project. Point is that the TN govt has been allocating Rs 10000 cr per year.
