Weather Bureau Warning - going to be a torrid summer this year

With the summer seasonal heat intensity already picking up, the meteorological centre has warned that the temperature may shoot up by up to 5 Degrees Celsius in 13 districts in the state including Chennai!

The summer season this year in Tamil Nadu has commenced during this month. With this advent, the temperature which was pleasantly mild until now has changed to high-intensity heat over this week.

Chennai being a coastal city, sea breeze sets in by the afternoon reducing the intensity of heat to a large extent. However, in the mountainous and interior regions, the intensity of heat has been severe.

Heatwave and blowing hot winds prevailed in 13 districts including Thiruvannamalai, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Salem, Dharmapuri, Salem, Karur, and Namakkal. The meteorological centre has announced that the same trend will persist for today (Thursday, 7th March) as well!

The centre has informed that the temperature will shoot up by 5 Degrees Celsius as compared to normal in 13 districts in the state including Chennai. This warning has been issued to the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Vellore, Dharmapuri, Namakkal, Salem, Karur, Dindigul, Trichy, Madurai, Erode, and Tirupur. As at 5.30 PM yesterday (6th March), a maximum temperature of 41 Degrees Celsius (or 106 Degrees Fahrenheit) has been recorded at Vellore.

The heat intensity was quite high in the cities of Thiruthani, Karur Paramathi, Dharmapuri, Madurai, Salem, and Trichy and was 40 Degrees Celsius. In Chennai, at the airport and Nungambakkam areas, the temperature was 35 Degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature in Degrees Celsius was recorded at Kodaikkanal 22, Coonoor 26, and Puducherry 33.

With the increasing intensity of summer, the meteorological centre has announced that there are prospects of rain from tomorrow in a few places.
