Jallikattu event is in progress at Madurai Avaniyapuram. The Tamil Nadu state minister Udayakumar flagged off and inaugurated the event.

The jallikattu event in Avaniyapuram is conducted after a gap of 2 years and is being observed as a triumph for the silent protest conducted by the students and the youth of entire Tamil Nadu.

Before the state minister Udayakumar flagged off the event, the Madurai district collector Veeraraghava Rao administered the oath of promise and the contestants took the oath. 916 bulls are to enter the fray in the jallikattu event. 721 bull catchers will contest.

After the release of the 4 temple bulls at the start, the bulls participating in the event jumped and galloped their way out of the Vadivasal (the gate). The bull catchers tried taming these bulls with energy and enthusiasm.

As the event is being organized after a 2-year gap, special security arrangements have been set up. Thousands of spectators have gathered to witness the event. Prizes such as mixies and ceiling fan, etc. are being awarded to the successful bull-catchers.
